This wreck is a 29 ton tug that was built in 1889.  The tug caught on fire in 1913 while it was in the Chicago River.  Following the fire the tug was towed out into Lake Michigan and sank.  Today the Luther Loomis sits upright in 50 feet of water offering a great dive for advanced and beginner divers.
**UPDATE** While this wreck was previously thought to be the Luther Loomis, we have recently learned that this is a misidentification and it is back to being a mystery!
