Launched in 1878, the two masted, 139 foot long schooner, Charles A. King served dutifully for nearly three decades until she met her fate in a storm in 1895. At the time of her sinking, she was hauling a full load of coal. She came to rest in just over 200 feet of water and lay there undisturbed and silent for well over a century until she was rediscovered only recently in 2008. The divers who rediscovered her were treated to the sight of an intact hull, nearly as pristine as she was on that fateful day she succumbed to the depths. One thing to check for are the artifacts that have been left on the port side decking, just forward of the stern. Be sure to look out for the pink candy dish! For the diver who is trained and experienced to venture to the depths in which she rests, the Charles A. King is truly a treat to explore. We visit the Charles A. King from Harbor Beach on the Go-Between.*Special thanks to Robert McGreevy for the use of his artwork for this shipwreck*
